After a fantastic fjord-threading cruise, we arrived in Flaam.
The dockside and railway. This rail trip was one of the
must-do's of the trip, and we had a good day for it.
But, as everyone else crammed into the first train, I decided to climb the road to get a look back to the dock. There were later trains I could catch, and I'd got all day in Flaam, so no rush.
This is the view down to the dock.
Back down at the station, the huge hulk of Arcadia dominated the scene.

What I didn't like (and was surprised at) was the ship's funnels constantly belched a stream of black smoke into the pristine fjord air. You would think there would be some way of stopping this, if only while in port?
You could see it hanging in every port. NOT good.
On the train now, and it set off - 'uppards!
Rounding a bend into one of many tunnels.
There were many waterfalls in this valley.
Conditions were perfect, there having been recent rains.
Road, rail and waterfall.
The cameras were clicking frantically, as we all vied to get the best shot.
One after another was revealed as we progressed up the valley.
But THIS was the one the trip was all about - Kjosfossen!
The passengers all got off the train and assembled on the special
viewing platform.
The roaring sound of the water was incredible!
Then it was 'all aboard' for the rest of the trip.
Myrdal station.
Everyone else stayed on the train, but I got off here, aiming to walk back to the ship. There was a clear path, so I was feeling confident for the trip back.
A bit 'arti-farti' for my tastes. ;-)
It's all Greek to me )well - Norwegian, anyway).
Only twenty one kilometres to go.
Just as I left, I saw the bullet rain, speeding towards Bergen.
These Norwegian trains are a legend. They hardly EVER get
stuck or cancelled, even though there's snow on the high route for most of the year. You can see a webcam of Finse station - the highest station on the line, and often snow-bound, click HERE
I started my journey back - no time to waste.
What a fabulous day for a hike, and all downhill :-)
It was a photographers paradise.
Many stops to take in the super sights and sounds.
Harebells - I recognise these from my native Derbyshire.
No problem if you've forgotten your water!
Happy in my 'work'.
It really was just view overload in this wonderful valley.
Seats provided, even a litter bin!
I was amazed to see fellow walkers, but now I was getting lower, I think they may have walked up from Flaam on the now considerable path.
Friendly goats, probably hoping for food.
.....and not a kayak in sight!
One long track of ice-cold water.
This one sorely tempted me to get under it.
If ONLY I had the time!
I made it back to the ship with plenty of time to spare.
We cast off, and set off into another sunset.
SO relaxing - and quiet too.
Most people were in their cabins.
Why, I don't know, as they were missing all this.
Although the sky wasn't clear tonight, Norway still didn't disappoint.
Shafts of light picked out detail on the fjord side.
They also made for good, ethereal pictures.
PHEW! Could you EVER get bored with this?
See the glacier on the top?
A very wide part of the fjord here, but being as deep as they are, the ship threads through some pretty spectacularly slim places.
Silvery glints kept adding to the spectacle.
Thinner here.
It never ceases to amaze me where people will settle and build.
Can you see the house in this shot?
I wonder if the postman delivers here?
I christened this 'sharks fin rock'.
We're going through that????
REALLY!!!!!
Breathe in.
We got through all the gaps successfully, on our way to the next stop.
Time for dinner.
